Michigan Death Certificate

Below is the information you'll need in order to obtain a death certificate in Michigan, including qualifications, cost, required information, where to submit your application, and a link to the application you'll need to fill out.

Qualifications

There are no restrictions on who may request certified death certificates in Michigan.

Cost

The fee to search for a death certificate is $26.00, which includes one certified copy of the death certificate. For each additional copy of the certificate ordered at the same time, the fee is $12.00. There is an additional fee of $10.00 for all expedited orders. Checks or money orders should be made payable to the "State of Michigan." Cash and credit cards are not accepted, except if the request is made in person for same-day service. Search fees are not refundable, but payment for additional copies will be refunded if the search indicated that the record is not filed with the state.

You may apply in person for a certified death certificate by going to:

The office is open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, but orders must be placed by 3:00 pm in order to receive same-day service. An additional “rush” fee of $10.00 is required for same-day service and there is a 2-hour waiting period for the order to be processed.
